1940 Boxing Day

Workers in 1940 were asked by the Government to work on Boxing Day to keep up the War Effort. A decree went out in November asking all workers only to take one day holiday between Christmas and New Year.
Last week we took an order for an original newspaper dated 26th December 1940 so I was hopeful to find a Boxing Day Times from 70 years ago in the archive. I soon got to the December 1940 volumes and leafed through the pages, stopping a few times to read an article or check out an advert, only to find that no editions were in fact published. However, it turned out that the 28th December 1940 paper, a Saturday, reviewed all of the Christmas Day and Boxing Day news in some detail. Thankfully the newspaper reported that there were not any air raids over the holiday period.
