1949 Newspapers from Papers Past

1st July London dockers come out on strike.
9th July South African Bobby Locke wins British Open Golf Championship.
12th July 13,000 dockers now on strike.
14th July Sugar ration down to 8 ounces a week, sweet ration back at 4 ounces.
22nd July Dock strike ends.
28th July Government admits that the new NHS costs 2/6d(12 1/2p) per person per week, 1/4d more than first thought.
