Five Fascinating Facts about The Times Newspaper

1. The Times is the oldest surviving daily newspaper printed in the English language.

2. Issue number one was on 1st January 1785 when it was called The Daily Universal Register.

3. It changed its name just to "The Times" in issue number 1023 on 18th May 1788.

4. Until 30th October 2004 the weekday editions of The Times were a broadsheet newspaper, roughly twice the size of a tabloid.

5. The Times was nicknamed "The Thunderer" after the vigorous way its editorial attacked and questioned the courts verdict of the death of Lord Greaves in 1830.
