1940-2010, 70 years of letters to the Times newspaper
This page has been printed daily since 1940 so we now celebrate 70 years of this unique page in the newspaper. Previous to that letters to the editor were inter spaced throughout the edition.
Tens of thousands of letters have been published in these nostalgic newspapers over the decades reflecting the wartime strife and troubles of the 1940's, the rebuilding and regeneration of 1950's Britain, the swinging 60's through to modern day.
My favourite letter to the editor was not long after The historic Times changed the format of its front page from classified ads to headlines and front page news. One regular reader wrote something along the lines of "Sir, How dare you change the format of The Thunderer! I deplore it, change it back immediately."
